The planning for this trip began with a preview of the Africa Yoga Project video at the BPYI Bootcamp October 2008. Originally, the trip was scheduled for Dec/Jan 2009. Baron booked an event in London mid April and it worked nicely to piggy back the trip to Africa, since Baron was going to be half way the decision was to go now.
Following the Hawaii BPYI Teacher Training end in March, I made the commitment to go to Africa. I had 2 weeks to get shots, prepare, and rearrange my schedule.
I began with the numerous shots: hepatitas, typhoid, tetanus, flu, polio, meningitis, and picked up a prescription of mefloquine for malaria. Passport updated and Visa documents were ready three days prior. I had purchased a backpack, new Keens, plastic bags for my clothes and various medical supplies. All I needed to pack was my old yoga clothes and clogs that I could leave behind.
I also brought a large suitcase of 57 BePresent pants and 5 Be Present tanks for participants, 3 tins of Gatorade, 60 Nike yoga straps, 80 waivers, and 2 nerf footballs.
Today I leave Milwaukee to Chicago to London, to Nairobi, 23 hours of flying arriving 8:55pm at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. I watched 3 movies (Yes Man, Wallander, Bolt) and various tv shows.
